 Gembira Loka Zoo

Gembra Loka Zoo is located  in Yogyakara at kebun Raya street no 2,it's a place that give opportunity for us to see and connect with different species of animal and do some activity there such as speedboat. Established in 1956 and it's already be a home for wide range of animals from different country and from Indonesia too. The zoo give education and conservation, providing informative exhibits and interactive experiences for visitor of all ages.


I visited the Gembira Loka Zoo on the 2nd october 2024 with my friend during the study tour to enchace  my education of animal there. We also have a task to do, we were asked to make a research of animal there in different species and habitat and share it on our blog.


This are some animal I saw and interact at the Gemira Loka Zoo!

The 1st animal is piranha!

  The classification:

    Kingdom:  Animalia  

 Phylum: Chordata

 Superclass: Teleostei

 Class: Actinoptergyii

 Ordo: Characiformes

 Family: Serrasalmidae

 Genus: Pygocentrus

    Species: Pygocentrus nattereri                                              

    The Characteristic:

      Body Covering: Scales.

     Locomotory Organ: Fins and tail.

     Sense Organs: Good eyesight and sense of smell; lateral line.

     Breathing Apparatus: Gills.

     Number of Heart Chambers: Two (one atrium, one ventricle).

     Body Temperature Regulation: Ectothermic (cold-blooded).

     Fertilization: External.

     Embryo Development: Develops in water; hatches in a few days.                                     



 The 2nd animal is katak pohon!

  The classification:

 Kingdom:  Animalia  

 Phylum:  Chordata

 Superclass: Tetrapoda

 Class: Amphibia 

 Ordo: Anura

 Family: Rhacphoridae

 Genus: Polypedates

    Species: Polypedates leucomystax

  The characteristic:

    Body Covering: Smooth, moist skin, variable colors with spots. 

    Locomotory Organ: Long hind limbs for jumping and climbing. 

    Sense Organs: Well-developed eyes and keen hearing. 

    Breathing Apparatus: Lungs; skin can also absorb oxygen. 

    Number of Heart Chambers: Three (two atria, one ventricle). 

    Body Temperature Regulation: Ectothermic, relies on environment. 

    Fertilization: External fertilization; males call to attract females. 

    Embryo Development: Eggs laid in water; develop into tadpoles then metamorphose intoadults         


 The 3rd animal aldabra giant tortoise!

  The classification:

    Kingdom: Animalia  

    Phylum: Chordata  

    Superclass: Reptilia  

    Class: Reptilia  

    Order: Testudines  

    Family: Testudinidae  

    Genus: Aldabrachelys  

    Species: Aldabrachelys gigantea  

   The characteristic:

    Body Covering: Scaly shell and skin  

    Locomotory Organ: Legs  

    Sense Organs: Eyes, ears, sensitive snout  

    Breathing Apparatus: Lungs  

    Number of Heart Chambers: 3  

    Body Temperature Regulation: Ectothermic  

    Fertilization: Internal  

    Embryo Development: Oviparous


The 4th animal is chicken!

  The classification:

   Kingdom: Animalia  

   Phylum: Chordata  

   Superclass: Tetrapoda  

   Class: Aves  

   Order: Galliformes  

   Family: Phasianidae  

   Genus: Gallus  

   Species: Gallus domesticus  

  The characteristic:

   Body Covering: Feathers  

   Locomotory Organ: Legs  

   Sense Organs: Vision, hearing, limited smell  

   Breathing Apparatus: Lungs with air sacs  

   Number of Heart Chambers: Four  

   Body Temperature Regulation: Endothermic  

   Fertilization: Internal  

   Embryo Development: Oviparous


This is the last animal that I will showed here is capybara!

   Sense Organs: Eyes, ears, nose  

   Breathing Apparatus: Lungs  

   Number of Heart Chambers: Four  

   Body Temperature Regulation: Endothermic  

   Fertilization: Internal  

   Embryo Development: Viviparous


Visiting Gembira loka Zoo for me is so much fun! I loved seeing and interact with different animal,like elephant, monkeys and fish. It was such a great experience for me to visiting the zoo with my friends, learning, explore, and laying together. Overall, it was a memorable day filled with joy and fun especially this is the last study tour with my friends.
